straight out of egypt via berlin comes this excellent two-tracker from the little-known son of sun. according to the press release accompanying the whispers ep, both tracks were inspired by a week sailing a yacht around the black sea. true or not (we have our doubts), there s certainly a sun-kissed laziness - despite weighty kick-drums and hissing, detroit techno style cymbals - about the woozy, dubtribe soundsystem style deep house of a-side -moonchild-. while impressive, the real killer is -whispers-, which peppers a swinging, dance mania style hip-house groove with snaking saxophones and atmospheric, spoken word vocals. it feels like a late night adriatic anthem in the making.

snuff trax celebrates magic record release number 010: happy jackin birthday! for this little anniversary we asked four great artists to rework chosen tracks from the labels back catalogue. leading us off, mr white (you know him from his collaboration with larry heard) made an edit of snuff crews *are you house*. followed by humandrone from tokyo remixing perseus traxx - *dont feel alone*. on the flipside you hear a remix treatment for raiders of the lost arp - *stealing my love* made by our man takeshi kouzuki of kobe/japan. and last but not least dimdj from thessaloniki created his own version of *galaxian journey* by elec pt.1.

at its very first start, the new label founded by conrad van orton proposes a vinyl of his own with two original tracks on the a side, november and captivity archives. and two great remixers such as vsk and the mysterious annuled user on the other. just as the needle starts to mark the passage, the classic four quarters give life to a beat that between one step and another compresses catapulting reality in a classic industrial scenario of mid-autumn where the clear sky gets marked by black and deep plots. a background noise accompanies the whole programming part of the drumming that gives off a relentless pace. on the a side captivity archives reconfirms the industrial nature of cvo with a look towards distant galaxies ..... with the needle still hot we turn around the record to the b side. here we find the vsk remix with a more ambient and crystal clear sound. to the original drum, vsk, choose an equally technical percussion. all home made. last but not least the contribution given by annulled user. trademark? techno! .. and there is nothing here to mess about with. 4/4 dry, hard which feel anger and rebellion desire. the kick, fairly present, is ripped apart by some demonic filters. the 5.30 min of annulled user are a reminiscence of the 90s.

breathtaking contemporary spiritual jazz from south africa ... when tumi mogorosi composed this suite for jazz musicians and opera vocalists he had never heard the previous successful attempts by donald byrd, max roach or mary lou williams to combine these seemingly unfriendly aesthetics. tumi, born in 1987 and already an accomplished drummer on the joburg scene, was at the time studying music at the tshwane university of pretoria where he became close friends with opera singers working on the same campus. so unlike some of his us peers tumis beliefs are not religious.

with their cinematic music and john carpenters cover albums, we wondered when a real soundtrack by zombie zombie is going to be out? well, here it is now , the two zombies cosmic neman and etienne jaumet finally sign their first film music for the first feature film from director , narimane mari, loubia hamra (bloody beans), to be released in spring 2014. and we found them there, where we do not expect, because it s not a horror movie, but a free movie, a journey of a group of children from a district of algiers during the war of algeria, who becomes aware of life and death.director narimane mari talks about her experience with zombie zombie and creation of the soundtrack for her movie:-i really wanted the music to be as blood flow of images and that is what it is. sharp, dull, full of strange noises, inner or surging, harmonious or disturbed by noise disorder, which allows to read beyond the visual narrative. we are in the bowels of childhood and it shakes us up when we let our-selves be takeover by the living: the profusion. i didn�t want to make a movie where psychology and reason rule and dominate until our senses are weakened, but a movie that we experience with the body and it is them who made it possible, this total immersion.
